FIRE STEM (Future Innovative Rising Engineers & Entrepreneurs) is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit empowering underrepresented youth through hands-on STEM projects, competitions, and mentorship.

Flexible | 1–3 hrs/week

Coaching Roles:
Lead Coaches/Mentors

Schedule Options:
In-Person: 1-4 Saturdays per month (1–3 hrs between 9 AM – 1 PM)
Virtual: Weekday evenings or afternoons (depends on team)
Season: September through May

Requirements
Passion for youth, education, and equity in STEM
Strong communication and reliability
Willingness to complete a background check (for those working directly with youth)
Attend onboarding and follow FIRE STEM’s code of conduct
At least 1–5 hours/month availability (depending on role)

Nope! We’ll provide resources and support for you.

Yes — many of our roles are evenings or weekends.

Not at all! We welcome volunteers who can commit to at least 1 Saturday per month. However, we recommend aiming for 2 Saturdays a month if possible, as it helps build consistency and stronger relationships with the student teams. We also offer optional virtual sessions during the week depending on the team’s needs.

Yes! Student mentors are welcome.

All roles are unpaid. FIRE STEM is fully volunteer-run, but service hours and references are available.
